Electrically Charged Diesel Fuel Injectors Increase Fuel Economy by 20%

Temple University researchers have developed a device that electronically charges fuel, in the injectors, before it enters the combustion chamber. The fuel viscosity is reduced, therefore creating smaller fuel droplets. Smaller droplets in turn leads to clean more efficient combustion and will save the trucking industry 12% in fuel costs.

EPA Awards 175K to NYSDEC for Diesel Hybrid Patrol Boat

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation will use the $175,915.00 towards the purchase of a new thirty-six foot diesel hybrid enforcement patrol boat. The new patrol boat will be used to safeguard the Hudson River and will save 8000 gallons of diesel fuel per year. With diesel fuel prices around $4.00 a gallon, that's a savings of $32,000.00 per year.

EPA Awards $50K to the Wisconsin DNR to Retrofit Garbage Trucks

At last, Dane County residents will be able to breath cleaner air. Garbage trucks that pick-up trash throughout the city will be retrofitted with diesel oxidation catalysts. These devices effectively reduce PM emissions by 20%, HC emissions by 50% and CO emissions by 40%.

Next on Dane County's agenda is to reduce the rotten trash odors and dumpster juice leaks.
